Goldman Sachs Employees Volunteer at Downtown Senior Center

  • October 11, 2017
  • Digital Skills Training

On Wednesday, September 27, volunteers from Goldman Sachs joined CTN at Downtown Senior Center for a “bring your own device” volunteer teach-in event. Seniors were invited to come in with questions for volunteers about their own phones, tablets, or computers. The event was wildly popular among the seniors at Downtown, with 23 clients in attendance excited to get support. They brought in all different kinds of devices, from 15-year-old laptops to brand-new smartphones. The volunteers were kept busy for a full 3 hours, working tirelessly until everyone’s questions had been answered.

Two tablets were raffled off halfway through the event, with regular client Albert Star and Patrick Behoney, a disabled veteran, as the lucky winners.

After the departure of long-time Program Coordinator Peggy Gallagher, the success of the teach-in was a great way to introduce new Downtown Senior Center staff members, Gloria and Crystal, to the work that CTN does with Downtown. It was only Crystal’s third day on the job, but she jumped right in and provided some tech tutoring too!
